About the Ladders
Note that it is the responsibility of all users of TheWestWalker.net to have read, understood, and accepted these rules. By playing a game in any of the ladders you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to abide by these rules. They are subject to change, so keep checking back.

1) Do not modify the gametypes or maps
When no download is specified for a gametype or map, the default variant must be used.  When a download is specified, the downloaded map or gametype must be used with no modification.  The only variation allowed is a change to BR starts (using a Battle Rifle as the starting weapon instead of the usual Assault Rifle), which is allowed in the Head to Head playlist only.

2) Respect the integrity of the map
If you’re playing on a custom map, there is almost always a defined boundary, but it is usually possible to leave that border. The rule is essentially as follows: don’t cross that border. In gametypes where the honor rule comes into play, follow it.

3) Only play one game
If you choose to schedule games with a certain team for a few games in a row, set them to different maps (meaning a different default map, different variants of Foundry count as the same map) each time. Using the same map/gametype combination within too narrow a time period may allow your opponent to report only the game he won for all of the challenges, thereby giving him an unfair boost in rank and you an unfair decrease.

4) Play the team color you're given
The team with higher XP must always be red, and the team with lower XP must always be blue. Do not use any other colors. In the event that both teams have the same XP, the team with the lower ID will be red. The team color you will take will be shown to you in the "Upcoming Games" part of your alerts page.

5) Red leader hosts
The team leader of red team will host the game and is responsible for downloading the maps and gametypes and sending invites to the players of blue team.

6) Challenges must be played at the accepted time
A margin of up to 10 minutes before and up to 20 minutes after the scheduled time of the match is allowed.

7) Games that end in a tie must be replayed
Do not file a report for games that end in a tie. Simply replay the game with the same settings.

8) Game reports must be filed within 48 hours
Either team may file a report, but they must be filed within 48 hours or the game is discarded.

9) Cancellations must be made 24 hours before the challenge time
Should you wish to cancel a challenge that you have made or already accepted, you must allow 24 hours padding time. Otherwise you must either play the game or forfeit.

10) Abuse of ingame mechanics for an unfair advantage is strictly prohibited
The purpose of TheWestWalker.net is to help honest gamers find oponents for clean and fun matches in Halo 3. Cheaters will not be tolerated.

11) Follow the spirit of the game
Anything against the spirit of the game is punishable. Hiding, betraying/suiciding until time runs out, placing objectives in unreachable locations, etc. all fall into the category.

12) Content of an offensive, hurtful, or obscene nature will not be tolerated
Judgement of whether or not a certain item violates this rule is at the discretion of the administrators. Breaking this rule will result in a temporary suspension or a permanent ban, depending on the severity of the issue.

This rule applies to any posted content on the site: your gamertag, your team names, anything posted on your profile or team pages, any messages you send, and any communication with your opponents on the site or in the game.

For those of you seeking the nitty-gritty regarding rank-ups, here's your place.

The Basics
The number behind the rank of a team is XP.  This is openly displayed, you can see the XP of any team by looking at their page.  The translation of XP to rank is simple: 100 XP = 1 rank.  That's it.

The More Complicated
There are two numbers that go into a rank change after a game.  The first is a rank modifier, related directly to the rank of the team whose XP is being changed.  The second is a difference modifier, relating to the distance between the ranks of the two teams.

The rank modifier is different based on which bracket of ranks the team being changed is in. (x is the rank of the team being changed.)
Bracket 1 (1-15): -0.0043 * (x ^ 2) + 3
Bracket 2 (16-30): -0.0015 * (x ^ 2) + 2.4
Bracket 3 (31-50): -0.0005 * (x ^ 2) + 1.5

The graph looks something like the one to the right.

There's also a difference modifier, represented by losing rank minus winning rank.  Between -4  and 4, the equation is 10(x ^ 3) + 100.  It caps at 20 for -5 and below, and 225 for 5 and higher.  So a rank 40 winning against a rank 5 will have a difference multiplier of 20, and a 5 winning over a 40 will have a modifier of 225, even though the two ranks are so far apart.  The graph is to the left.

Then the XP change is simple: difference modifier times rank modifier.  This applies to both teams, win or loss, except you go up with a win and down with a loss.
